Update

The Observatory can accommodate up to 9 people in two dormitories, you need to bring your own sleeping bags and it is self-catering. As well as Birdwatchers, we welcome people from many areas of interest including Moths, Butterflies, Bugs and Beetles or just a general interest in Nature and the local environment. Please forward any Dungeness recording area records to the Warden.
You can still support the Obs by using Give as you Live when shopping online.

Friends of DBO

The Observatory operates as an independent charity, dependant on subscriptions, gifts and donations. There are several ways you can support the Observatory:
  • Use Giveasyoulive when shopping online - there are over 4,000 stores that donate to your chosen charity when you shop or you can just donate using the button on the sightings page. To join just click on this link and follow the onscreen directions. 
  • Purchase any of our  good quality goods as shown in the Our Shop tab. If you want any advice or to order, either visit the Observatory or contact the Warden: dungenessobs@vfast.co.uk
  • Become a 'Friend of Dungeness Bird Observatory'

Becoming a Friend costs £15.00 a year, payable on January 1st and entitles you  to an annual Report, access to the two sea-watch hides on the beach, and reduced accommodation charges if you stay at the Observatory. You are also welcome to make a cup of tea or coffee when visiting the Observatory building. 
There are several ways of subscribing but PLEASE NOTE that you will need to print and fill out a SUBSCRIPTION form and a GIFT AID form and hand to the Warden or send to the Observatory or Membership Secretary (address below) :

  • You can send a cheque, made out to Dungeness Bird Observatory Trust, or postal order to the Membership Secretary, 
  • You can set up a Standing Order,
  • You can pay with a Bank Transfer or
