The first Sandwich Terns arrived. |

The first Wheatears arrived and two Woodlark were also seen. A small movement of birds at sea included seven Garganey and 52 Pintail. |

The first significant arrival of small grounded migrants occurred with 21 Wheatears, 12 Black Redstarts and 60 Chiffchaffs. |

|
More migrants arrived with 30 Wheatears, six Black Redstarts and 50 Chiffchaffs in the area. A small group of migrant Stonechats included two of the contintental race rubicola. At sea, 5500 auks flew west. |

A few fresh migrants included a Dartford Warbler. |

A party of 25 Avocets flew east along the beach along with 568 Dark-bellied Brent Geese. A Woodcock and a Woodlark were seen on land. |

An arrival of migrants included 14 Firecrests, 50 Chiffchaffs, seven Black Redstarts on the land and 460 Meadow Pipits passing over the area. The first Blackcap of the year was also seen. At sea, 663 Dark-bellied Brent Geese also flew east. |

The first Willow Warblers of the spring arrived whilst at sea an exceptional total of 11 Slavonian Grebes flew east. Brent Geese also flew east with at least 1059 seen. |

An excellent day with a strong movement of birds at sea including eight Black-throated Divers, 217 Fulmars, 1027 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, three Garganey, 55 Shoveler, 28 Scaup, 2846 Common Scoter, an Arctic Skua, 160 Sandwich Tern and best of all, two King Eider. However, even better was to follow, with the discovery of a Short-toed Treecreeper in the Lighthouse Garden. This bird stayed for four days and frequently gave views down to a few feet. |

House Martin and Sedge Warbler were new for the year. Three Great Skuas and seven Little Gulls flew east at sea. |

Tree Pipit was new for the year. |

A Hoopoe was seen by one observer at the Long Pits and a Serin flew out to sea at 0730hrs. Swallow and Yellow Wagtail were also new for the year and a Woodlark made a brief appearance. |
