Sightings June 2001
1st Six Mediterranean Gulls were at the Patch.
6th Mediterranean Gulls at the Patch increased to 15.
9th Still 15 Mediterranean Gulls at the Patch.
10th A superb adult summer plumaged Bonaparte’s Gull was found at the Patch. It then commuted between there and the RSPB Reserve before departing eastwards in late afternoon. At least 13 Mediterranean Gulls were still at the Patch.
11th Still large numbers of Mediterranean Gulls at the Patch.
12th Mediterranean Gulls at the Patch increased to 28.
18th Thirteen Mediterranean Gulls at the Patch.
20th A Purple Heron made a brief visit to the Long Pits reed bed.
22nd Ten Mediterranean Gulls at the Patch.
24th Fifteen Mediterranean Gulls at the Patch.
25th Twenty-five Mediterranean Gulls at the Patch.
26th Twenty-three Mediterranean Gulls at the Patch.
27th Eighteen Mediterranean Gulls and five Yellow-legged Gulls at the Patch.
It is likely that there were up to about 80 individual Mediterranean Gulls at the Patch during the month. Ringed birds were noted from France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Czech Republic.
