and a juvenile Yellow-legged Gull were seen
at the Patch and 26 Sand Martins passed
through. A Great Spotted Woodpecker was
seen in the area. |

|
Six
Mediterranean Gulls and a Little Gull were
seen at the Patch and 390 Swifts and 116 Sand
Martins flew through. |
| 3rd |
|
A

| 4th |

Two

Gulls (one juvenile) were on the beach. A
Great Spotted Woodpecker was trapped in the
moat and a Yellow Wagtail flew over. |
| 5th |
|
An
adult Roseate Tern was seen at the Patch.
Three Mediterranean Gulls and two Yellow-legged
Gulls were also seen during the day. A few Swifts
and Sand Martins also passed through and a Great
Spotted Woodpecker was seen at the Long Pits. |
| 6th |
|
An
increasingly windy day meant that most of the
observations were made offshore where a Balearic
Shearwater, four Manx Shearwaters, two Whimbrel,
a Pomarine Skua and an Arctic Skua
were seen. A second-summer Yellow-legged Gull
was roosting on the point again and at least 1500 Swifts
and a few Sand Martins flew out to the
south. |
| 7th |
|
Another
very windy day with frequent showers in the
morning failed to produce a great deal on the sea.
Just five Manx Shearwaters flew west in
nearly five hours of watching whilst the
now-regular second-summer Yellow-legged Gull
and also two adult Mediterranean Gulls were
seen on the beach at the fishing boats.
Swifts
continue to move around in the poor weather with
at least 500 through the area along with 50 Sand
Martins. |
| 8th |
|
The
very strong winds continue and hamper any
observations except on the sea where seven hours
of watching produced 20 Manx Shearwaters,
21 Fulmars, 525 Gannets, single Arctic
and Great Skuas, six Whimbrel, four Mediterranean
Gulls, 50 Kittiwakes, 83 Sandwich
Terns and 195 Common Terns flying west.
|
| 9th |
|
Rain
for most of the day and still with a strong wind
at times meant more seawatching. The highlight was
a flurry of Storm Petrels heading west
during the morning with at least three individuals
and perhaps as many as six birds being seen. Other
birds were generally scarce although seven hours
of observations eventually produced five Manx
Shearwaters, a Shag, 544 Gannets,
304 Common Scoters, two Whimbrels
and 28 Kittiwakes flying west.
Two
juvenile Yellow-legged Gulls were also seen
at the fishing boats along with the regular
second-summer bird.
