A day of strong south to
south easterly winds brought a steady trickle of Gannets
and Kittiwakes throughout the day and quality
in the form of a Great Northern Diver, two Velvet
Scoters, a Great Skua and a Little Auk
west.
|
| 2nd |
|
Gale-force
south-easterly winds prevented any observations
other than seawatching but even this became very
quiet after mid-morning. The highlight of the early
morning session was a Leach's Petrel with
numbers provided by more Gannets and Kittiwakes.
Fourteen Red-breasted Mergansers were also of
interest.
|
| 3rd |
|
Poor weather continues
to limit observations. Seawatching produced two Pintails,
11 Shoveler, two Velvet Scoters and
six Red-breasted Mergansers. A Merlin
was also seen.
|
| 4th |
|
Dismal weather and very
limited coverage.
|

six Chiffchaffs were the only notable birds
on a very foggy day.

|
A change to a fresh
north-easterly wind produced some interesting
seawatching with the highlights being four Pomarine,
two Arctic and a Great Skua and 8000 auks
west in a two hour spell during the morning. Two
first-winter Caspian Gulls were also seen on
the beach at the fishing boats and two adult Mediterranean
Gulls flew east during the afternoon.
|
| 13th |
|
Fewer birds at sea today
but still quite productive with 180 Red-throated
Divers, a Little Egret arriving from the
south, a few duck including 20 Pintail, 60 Wigeon
and four Shoveler, an adult Mediterranean
Gull and still large numbers of auks, mostly Guillemots,
offshore. A second-winter Caspian Gull was
roosting amongst the gulls near the fishing boats
for a time at high tide. A trickle of finches passed
through with 20 Goldfinches and 12 Siskins
of note.
